Having spent so much of last year travelling, I hadn’t kept my finger on the coffee pulse in Bangkok. If I had, I would have known about Ceresia long ago, since they’ve been open around 7 months now. After my first trip there today, I can be sure I’ll be back many more times in the future!

Ceresia Coffee Roasters is conveniently located on Sukhumvit 33/1, opposite the Fuji Super supermarket and only 5 minutes walk from BTS Phrom Phong. Upon entering I was shocked to see a foreigner behind the counter – a surprisingly uncommon sight in Bangkok’s coffee scene to date.

After a long chat with the overwhelmingly friendly owners (two from Venezuela and one from Thailand), I learned that this is the owners’ first venture into the cafe/roasting scene after years working in the industry in England, but with an obviously keen understanding of their product and a family background in coffee, the fruit of their labour is well worth sampling.

House roasted coffee beans at Ceresia Coffee Roasters

Bins of beans so big I wanted to swim in them! (Don’t worry, I didn’t.)

Yes yes, but what about the Coffee?

I tried the current Ceresia Espresso blend as an espresso, and was well impressed. The tasting notes on the in-house newsletter described the blend of Costa Rica and Columbian single origins as “…caramel and sweet mandarin notes… full creamy mouth feel…”. And that’s exactly what it delivered. The palate had about the maximum amount of acidity that I enjoy in an espresso blend, and as a Single Malt Whiskey lover I really appreciated the luxurious mouth feel and long finish.

Dont just take my word for it, either. While I was chatting away with the owners the head roaster from Roast/The Roots strolled in for a coffee – a pretty good endorsement if you ask me!

Selection of cakes at Ceresia Coffee Roasters

A naughty selection of artisan cakes on offer. Go on, you know you want to…

I decided to sample one of their cakes as well, and instead of my usual coffee + chocolate mix I chose the Carrot Cake. Sounds boring right? But WOW. One of the best pieces of carrot cake I can remember having – certainly worth coming here to try the cakes as well!

The beans are roasted on the premises, and the whole store is impeccably clean, almost like a coffee laboratory. And I like what they’re cooking up here. Will definitely be watching the rise of this new player in the market.

    • Unfortunately no. I think they might put in wifi eventually, they have a big foreign crowd in here so wifi is pretty important!
