This review might get me in a bit of trouble. Given that D&D is primarily known as a chain store selling upmarket groceries, some might view this post as being slightly out of place on a blog dubbed “best coffee”. Something akin to listing Starbucks or 7-Eleven. But the coffee at Dean & Deluca is really not so bad!
Oh sure, it’s not going to take home any solid gold trophies from an international barista or cupping event. But on a good day, with a good barista at the helm of the espresso machine, you can find a reasonable cup of coffee here that is smooth and easy to drink. Especially if you take your coffee with milk. It seems that even if the beans are not gourmet and the coffee is not always handled perfectly, the milk is handled expertly (never burnt) and you’ll find your drinks adorned with the now ubiquitous latte-art too.
Bottom line on the coffee: 4 out of 5 times you come here, the coffee will be smooth and not bitter, but lacking in character.
Nevertheless Dean & Deluca is a decent option in this area which is all but starved of gourmet coffee. Add to that free wifi, with a selection of gourmet sandwiches, cakes and pastries, and this can make for a quite agreeable pit-stop, as is evident in the constant flow of moneyed foreigners through the doors.
Atmosphere is neither here nor there, decor is modern and minimal but nothing exciting, and there are plenty of other goodies on sale here. There are two other locations in Bangkok, next to BTS Chong Nonsi in Silom.
